As we drove along the M7 to Limerick last week, I was taken by the number of trees that are laden with ivy across the beautiful landscape. Not great. We need our trees – as the saying goes “if you want things to stay the same, something has to change”.
It’s one of the things I do when visiting home – cutting back ivy that threatens to strangle trees. I use a pruning blade to cut through thick ivy stems, and carefully prise the stem from the tree using the blade.
As I tackled some thick stems on a redwood back in Dublin, I realised the little birds had gone quiet and a raven was calling in the sycamore nearby. When I’d finished, it took off and gave a great display with it’s outstretched wings.
