Awakening out of Winter

Awakening out of winter, I finished this gull painting last week, it’s been on my mind and I’ve been sketching the idea since being on Achill last year. In the shallows, the seaweed turns over with the tide, mixing with the foam – rich pickings for the gull.

Sketches done on my journey across Mayo from  Westport to Achill.

Mostly I used pencil and then there’s some Pan Pastels for colour.

I completed about 10 oil paintings during my travels, and I’m working now on completing the full series in the studio.

West Kerry Paintings in Dublin boutique for Christmas 2016

I’ve hung these paintings for sale in Sheila’s shop in Cabinteely, Co. Dublin along side her wonderful fashion designs.

Each painting comes ready gift-boxed.

See Google map below for details.

The elements of Mount Brandon, & the surrounding landscape, the rock, sediment & growths are pretty amazing. It was a cold day on Fermoyle beach, but the sky light was beautiful. There were many families camped out on the sand, taking it all in and surfing for the day. The children passing by checked out my progress as I painted. Sold
On Inch Beach, 23rd November 2013. Storms have since wiped out the little river and the fence posts.
You can barely see the house through the trees, but it felt to me like the start of a story, summer colours in the foreground contrasting the blues and cyans of the sky, and they in turn varied by reflections and moisture coming up from Glentenassig beyond. A special mix of greys in the mountains and the clouds above.

Pictures of Ireland

I’ve been putting together some pictures of Ireland, going through photos in Lightroom. Because I’m always shooting a photo with a view to capturing a reference for a painting, they don’t often work as a finished photo, but some do & I don’t pay enough attention to them.

Intense rain and wind is difficult to work with, rain seems to come from everywhere, but with the camera under a white umbrella, I managed to get this shot.

Photo: Beautiful soft colours of falling rain at Clogher Beach, Dingle Peninsula, West Kerry, Ireland.
Freshly harvested field in Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland.

I took this photo from the passenger seat in a moving car heading south on the M11 en route to Brittas Bay.
