#WorkingInTheWindow #AskMeAnythingAboutArt

Getting ready – My easel setup in Sheila Considine’s fashion design shop.

Tomorrow, Thursday the 12th of October 2017, I’ll be painting a still life, in oil in Sheila Considine’s fashion shop in Cabinteely Co. Dublin. This evening I set up the easel – I’ve never done anything like this before and I’m really looking forward to it, talking about art and painting all day – what could be better?

A Finsbury Park Sketchbook

I’m sorting through my sketches of Finsbury Park, North London, these are a mixture of paint, pencil, Wacom Inkling, pan pastel, watercolour and conte crayon.

Some are done in Finsbury Park and some from photographs.

Mayo 2017 Summer Sketchbook, from Westport to Achill Island

Sketching composition of the dunes on Golden Strand
Sketching the dunes on Golden Strand, Doogurt, Achill Island, Mayo.

Sketches done on my journey across Mayo from  Westport to Achill.

Mostly I used pencil and then there’s some Pan Pastels for colour.

I completed about 10 oil paintings during my travels, and I’m working now on completing the full series in the studio.

Sketching in the Park

Line and Colour

I’ve been organising through my compositional ideas in the park, they are slow to come together from sketches into paintings, there are so many elements to consider.

Mary from Gallarus Oratory

Mary – I’m hoping you’ll stop by some day, here’s the portrait sketch – I’m so looking forward to seeing your sketch of me.

Pan Pastel sketch of Mary

I met Mary, an artist who was visiting Gallarus Oratory. We took each others photo with a view to doing a sketch. I think she was from Canada, but I may not be remembering quite right. She works with charcoal mostly. I did my sketch in Pan Pastel on tinted paper.

Working Away Quietly

Pan Pastels are a great way to work loosely on ideas

Lately I’ve been concentrating on portraits trying to consolidate my ideas & figure out the practical side of things. Using a different medium too for working out the layout and colours. Pan Pastels are great to work loosely with – you apply with a foam tipped little plastic knife.
